(She teaches architectural design studio and design theory.  Her areas of interest are: Design knowledge and epistemology of architecture.) Her publications include, Contestations over a Living Heritage Site: the case of Büyük Valide Han, in Orienting Istanbul: cultural capital of Europe?, ed.s D.Göktürk, L.Soysal, İ.Türeli, Routledge, 2010;  Design and Cinema: Form Follows Film, B.Uluoğlu, A.Enşici, A.Vatansever, ed.s, Cambridge Scholars Press, 2006;  The Speciality of the Individual Building and the Everydayness of the City  City, Architecture in Between Past and Future, ITU, 2005;  Design knowledge communicated in studio critiques  Design Studies vol.21, issue 1, 2000.

Francisca Aroso is an architect graduated from ESAP (Oporto, Portugal), holds a Master Degree in Advanced Architecture from IAAC (Barcelona, Spain), with a related thesis in the field of “Bio FAB”. She worked in architectural firms in Portugal and Spain and has taught several years at Didaxis (Portugal). From September 2008 until July 2009 she was assisting Digital Fabrication Classes, Parametric Design Seminar, Research Studio-Digital Tectonics and work as well on the FabLab BCN all at IaaC and was part of the curatorial team for the FAB exhibition-at the new Design Museum of Barcelona. Since September 2009 she is enrolled in a PhD Program at AA having as a host the Emergent Technologies and Design and was working as well at the AA’s Digital Prototyping Lab. Since September 2010, she is assisting EmTech.

Diego Perez Espitia: A graduate from the Architectural Association Design Research Lab (2008), Diego holds an honours degree in architecture from Los Andes University (2000). He has taught design studio in Colombia, digital tools at the AADRL, and parametric design at Tsinghua University, China, and at the AA Visiting School. His work ranges from scripted master plans, public buildings and facade development, all the way through to interior design and applied design research in Colombian slums. Since 2006 he has been interrogating -through academia, at MAD Architects as Parametric Design Leader, and currently at Zaha Hadid Architects- the potentials and limitations of algorithmic design in architecture.

Alexandros Kallegias: studied architecture at the University of Patra in Greece where he received his Master of Architecture degree. As a graduate from the DRL program in the Architectural Association he explores computational means such as processing and grasshopper as a parametric problem-solving design approach. He is a registered architect in Greece. Alexandros.Kallegias@aaschool.ac.uk

Immanuel Koh: graduated from the AA DRL in 2010 and has been the Unit Master at the AA Shanghai Visiting School, AA Beijing Visiting School, Moscow’s Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture & Design (Summer Program) and Visiting Researcher at the Interactive & Digital Media Institute (Singapore). Previously, he was briefly the Acting Partner at anOtherArchitect (Berlin). His work has also been published and exhibited internationally. Other awards received include the AA Graduate Bursary and Hong Kong Designers Awards (HKDA).

Currently, Immanuel teaches at Dessau Institute of Architecture (DIA/Bauhaus) Graduate School and works at Zaha Hadid Architects’ Computation and Design group (ZHA|CODE).

Müge Belek: Born in 1978, Istanbul, Muge Belek is an architect and a Research Assistant at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). She holds a BSc. in Architecture, a MSc. on “Collaborative Design Studio Environments” from ITU, and a MArch. from Architectural Association School of Architecture Design Research Laboratory. She has worked in several architectural firms in Istanbul and Brazil, as well as Zaha Hadid Architects Ltd., in London. She is currently continuing her PhD research on TransArchitectural Acoustics, during which she has studied with Marcos Novak for two years in University of California, Santa Barbara, Translab. She has published articles and interviews and presented in several international conferences and exhibitions.

Frederico Fialho Teixeira: is an architect, media artist currently lecturing at Istanbul Technical University and he is the co-founder of [f]Flat Architectures research group. He is also a researcher at University of California Santa Barbara, where he is an Awarded Fellow and PhD candidate, at the Media Art and Technology department based at the California Nano Systems Institute.

Currently his studies fall into the area of Spatial Arts and focus in Biological Spatial Systems. In this field he explores structures with evolutionary spatial characteristics able to embody multi-dimensional properties. These spatial systems develop within ubiquitous ecologies instigating multiple appropriations both in the physical and virtual realms.

Ahu Sökmenoğlu: is an architect, teaching and research assistant at Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Architecture. She is a PhD candidate both at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and TU Delft in a joint program between Building Technology (TU Delft) and Architectural Design (ITU) programs. Her PhD is focused on the application of data mining in micro-scale urban feature analysis.

She has received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from ITU in 2002 and Master of Architecture degree from Architectural Design Computing graduate program of ITU in 2005. She has been a guest researcher at TU Delft between 2007-2008. She teaches undergraduate architectural design studio (since 2005) and graduate digital architectural design studio (since 2009) in ITU. She has several papers presented and printed in national and international conferences and publications of architecture.
